Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 150g
  • 1/2 cup cane sugar 100g
  • 7 oz vegan dark chocolate 200g
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce 100g (egg substitute)
  • 1/3 cup plant-based milk 80ml (soy, almond, or oat)
  • 1/4 cup melted coconut oil 60ml
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup chopped walnuts 80g

Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Ingredients

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a square baking pan with parchment paper. This prevents sticking and makes it easier to remove the brownies later.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, vanilla extract, and salt.

Step 2: Melt the Chocolate

  • Melt the dark chocolate and coconut oil using a double boiler (bain-marie) or microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring each time until smooth.
  • Once melted, stir in the applesauce and plant-based milk, mixing well to create a creamy, smooth consistency.

Step 3: Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

  • Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the dry ingredients.
  • Gently fold everything together with a spatula until you have a thick, lump-free batter.

Step 4: Add the Walnuts

  • Stir in the chopped walnuts, making sure they’re evenly distributed.
  • If you love extra crunch, sprinkle a handful of whole walnut pieces on top before baking.

Step 5: Bake the Brownies

  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. To check doneness, insert a toothpick or knife in the center—if it comes out slightly moist, the brownies will be perfectly fudgy.

Step 6: Let Cool and Serve

  • Allow the brownies to cool completely before cutting. This helps them set properly and makes slicing easier.
  • Once cooled, cut into squares and enjoy!
