Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 6 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Gruyere, Comté, or Cheddar
  • 3 tablespoons finely chopped chives
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Waffle Batter

  • In a large mixing bowl, sift the flour and baking powder to prevent lumps.
  • Add salt and pepper, then mix well.
  • In another bowl, whisk the eggs with the milk and melted butter until well combined.
  • Gradually add the liquid mixture to the dry ingredients while whisking to create a smooth batter.
  • Fold in the shredded cheese and chopped chives, mixing gently to distribute them evenly.

Step 2: Preheat the Waffle Iron

  • Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Lightly grease the plates with butter or oil to prevent sticking.

Step 3: Cook the Waffles

  • Pour a small ladle of batter onto each section of the waffle iron.
  • Close the lid and cook for about 3 to 5 minutes, until the waffles are golden brown.
  • Keep the cooked waffles warm while preparing the rest.

Step 4: Serve the Waffles

  • Place the waffles on a plate and serve them hot.
  • Garnish with extra chives and, if desired, pair them with a dipping sauce like sour cream, Greek yogurt, or a light cheese sauce.
